The Hook peninsula is graced by the ancient Hook Lighthouse and interpretive centre. Regular guided tours of the lighthouse are available. The nearby shop and restaurant are open all year.

Fethard-on-Sea village is dominated by its wide main street and distinctive round towered castle. It once boasted 2 castles and 2 members of parliament. Today Fethard-on-Sea provides a hotel, 2 caravan parks, a large grocery store with delicatessen & fuel pumps, post office, tourist office, hairdresser, 2 restaurants, betting shop, amusement arcade, 3 pubs and a country market (seasonal).

The Hook area is one of the most desirable holiday destinations in the south east of Ireland with its hinterland of 20 miles of varied coastline from fine sandy beaches for bathing and surfing to rocky cliffs and the marshlands and mud flats of Bannow Bay renowned for its wildlife conservation area.

The charming village of
Saltmills with its majestic views of Tintern Abbey and Bannow Bay is just a few minutes drive from Dungulph Castle.

The
Saltee Islands lie 12 miles east and are the subject of tantalising folklore of pirates and princes as well as being one of Irelands most important seabird sancturies for gannet, puffin, razorbill, guillemot, cormorant,terns and gulls.
